10 Side gigs that take little to no effort
Now is the best time to find a side gig and earn extra money. Working from home has become an economic staple, offering countless ways to capitalize on this trend.
If you have special skills, you can easily turn them into a side gig. Even if you don’t, learning a new skill for the opportunities below is simple. I have personally tried several of these gigs, and while some take longer to generate income, you WILL see results!
Let us focus in!
- Blogging
Blogging is the ideal side gig if you enjoy working from anywhere at any time. If you’re passionate about a topic, write about it! Passion makes this gig fun, though it is not a quick or easy way to earn money initially.
Once you produce quality content and master advertising and affiliate marketing, everything else falls into place. I am highlighting blogging first because it can eventually become your primary source of income.
Platforms like WordPress and Bluehost are great starting points for beginners. Writing about topics you love makes content creation easier because you can readily share valuable information and engaging stories. Popular niches like cooking demos, recipes, fashion trends, health topics, and fitness attract high reader interest and generate steady revenue. Keep in mind that earning your first $1,000 is the hardest part—after that, it is smooth sailing!
2. Selling unused items online
This side gig is one of my favorites because it is so easy to start! Imagine running a perpetual garage sale where you sell unused items from your couch or while enjoying lunch out.
Platforms like OfferUp/LetGo and Facebook give you space to list items for local buyers or nationwide shipping. I have personally experienced fast sales using these platforms, making them a great way to generate quick cash.
3. Food Delivery
Delivering for services like Door Dash, Postmates, and UberEATS offers another quick way to earn money. Many of these platforms offer daily cash-outs, making this a highly recommended option if you need fast payouts.
I STILL deliver for these services in my spare time because the work is exceptionally flexible and fits seamlessly into my schedule.
4. Surveys
Completing online surveys is a simple way to earn money directly from your phone. While it won’t replace a full-time income, joining multiple survey platforms helps you consistently accumulate extra cash.
Here are some popular survey sites:
With remote work growing rapidly, virtual assistants are in high demand.
Business owners need help with endless daily tasks and will happily pay you to handle them—all from the comfort of your home.
5. Transcribing
Accurate typing skills, efficient time management, and strong research abilities are essential for transcription work. If you are not an expert typist yet, numerous online transcription courses can quickly bring you up to speed.
Transcribe Anywhere offers a highly useful, free mini-course to help you get started.
6. Become a Virtual Assistant
7. Reselling
Reselling differs from simply clearing out personal items you already own.
This gig involves purchasing items at a low price and flipping them for profit. You can source items at thrift stores, on Craigslist, or through online marketplaces. Refurbish these items and flip them for a return. While bargain hunters excel at this business, anyone can learn to do it successfully.
8. Listing on Airbnb
If you have a spare room, own an RV, travel frequently, or have an unused garage, you can rent that space to guests. Listing your space is an excellent way to earn predictable monthly income.
9. Driving for Lyft or Uber
Rideshare driving remains a consistently reliable option. Lyft and Uber dominate the market as top-tier transportation services. To qualify as a driver, you will need a four-door vehicle and a clean driving record.
10. Sitting Services
Babysitting and pet sitting provide easy ways to earn extra cash. By building strong relationships with clients, you can secure reliable, recurring work. Platforms like Rover and Care.com are ideal places to discover local sitting opportunities.
